A cool breeze was blowing, a warm Southwest sun was shining, the HIPICO Lounge was packed and hundreds of spectators came out on Sunday for the thrill of the $50,000 Grand Prix de Santa Fe sponsored by the Brad and Kathy Coors Family.

Hector Loyola of Mexico designed an appropriate course with 12 horses jumping clean in the first round and making it to the jump off.  “The jump off is going to be a lot of fun,” said Hector Loyola, “Great sport today! The grass footing is really nice, top-of-the-line, and something to be envied as grass footing like this is not something competitors can experience often.”

Rider Jenni McAllister has been consistently placing in Grand Prix competition throughout the summer series and Sunday was no exception.  Of the 12 horses in the jump off the Jenni McAllister and Legis Venice was the only pair to jump clean, placing 1st.  Jenni also placed 4th riding Legis Touch the Sun with only 4 faults in the jump off.  Diego Vivero and Bijoux placed 2nd with only 4 faults in the jump off and a fast time.  Diego Vivero comes from Ecuador and this powerful pair was also the winner of this week’s $7500 Weekly Welcome Stakes sponsored by Carolina Arena Equipment. Frankie Owens and Capricello 2 placed 3rd, Nicki Wilcox and J.E.S. Quito place 5th, Tanimara Macari and Brianne TN placed 6th, Will Simpson and E-Unanime de la Haie placed 7th, Alexi Bowen and Oley, placed 8th, Amanda Comly and Mullentine Imperial placed 9th, Susan Griffis and Indoktro K Van’t Kattenheye placed 10th, Bob Brawly and Condero 3 placed 11th and Gianna Aycock and Quidditch placed 12th.

Kathy Coors and her daughter Cecily, were on the field to present the awards for the Kathy and Brad Coors Family $50,000 Grand Prix, along with HIPICO Leadership Brian and Phyllis Gonzales and Guy and Sharon McElvain, their daughter Chenoa McElvian, and Sparrow Campbell and Kate Kendall of Sparrowhawk.

“We had so much fun on the grass! Great footing!” remarked US Olympian Will Simpson during the awards ceremony.

Thank you to the Brad and Kathy Coors Family for their generous support of HIPICO Santa Fe and the Santa Fe Summer Series. HIPICO Santa Fe could not produce such an incredible show with the support of their wonderful sponsors.  Congrats to all riders! What a beautiful week at HIPICO Santa Fe!
