(Ed note: Wistful finished 9th in the 2009 YJC Western League Finals. She was bred in the USA by Kandi & Rusty Stewart’s Grey Fox Farm. Her sire is the grand prix jumper Grand Star, and her dam is Rusty’s grand prix mare Power Lady.)
THERMAL, CA (February 10, 2013) – Before the start of HITS Desert Horse Park’s $54,500 HITS Grand Prix CSI-W2*, presented by Zoetis, course designer Florencio Hernandez of Mexico said that his goal was to have between one and three clear. He landed on the low side of that projection with no need for a jump-off as Ashlee Bond was the only one to go clean in the first round aboard Wistful.
Riding a California-bred mare owned by her family’s Little Valley Farm, Bond of Hidden Hills, California was one among 24 riders to tour the track. Nayel Nasser of Stanford, California, was the only other rider to finish the course with no jumping faults, but one time fault landed him second place with his own Raging Bull Vangelis S.
The track was huge, with 13 obstacles and 16 jumping efforts set between 1.50m and 1.60m. The scope, combined with some tricky distances and a sequence of very tight turns, was more than most horse and rider teams could master. Many riders had time faults even after the time allowed was adjusted from 77 to 84 seconds.

THERMAL, CA (February 3, 2013) – Speed, scope, strategy and nerve were pushed to the extreme in the $54,500 Strongid® C 2X Grand Prix CSI-W 2*, presented by Zoetis, Saturday night at HITS Desert Circuit II. Ultimately, it came down to a contest of two in which Rusty Stewart of Camarillo, California, prevailed on his Grey Fox Farm entry, Bristol. His contender was Lucy Davis and Old Oak Farm’s Nemo 119. The event, which took place under the lights before a capacity crowd, was the West Coast’s first FEI World Cup qualifier of the winter season and also the first show jumping competition to take place under the banner of Zoetis, the new name of the company formerly known as Pfizer Animal Health. Zoetis will continue to manufacture products such as Strongid® C 2X, Fluvac Innovator® and Quest® Plus.
The Strongid® C2X Grand Prix was a qualifier for both the AIG Thermal $1 Million Grand Prix, presented by Lamborghini Newport Beach, this March and the Zoetis $1 Million Grand Prix that will take place Sept. 7-8 at HITS-on-the-Hudson in Saugerties, New York on Championship Weekend.

THERMAL, CA (January 28, 2013) – In a thrilling a contest that came down to the final seconds of the jump-off, the $50,000 EMO Grand Prix, presented by Pfizer Animal Health, brought the first week of competition at HITS Desert Horse Park to a heart-pounding conclusion as Encinitas, California rider Mandy Porter on My Equine Ventures’ Con Capilot snatched victory from Mexico’s Enrique Gonzales on his own Quilebo Du Tillard.
Gonzales sat comfortably in first, but in a dramatic turn of events, Porter advanced to first. She was next-to-last in the ring among 32 starters and last to go in a jump-off that saw 12 advance fault-free past round one of Canadian designer Danny Foster’s course of 13 jumping efforts that included lots of tight turns and combinations.
First up in the jump-off was Gonzalez riding Criptonite, laying down an early Great American Time to Beat of 41.22 seconds. The next two – Helen McNaught of San Ramon, California and her own Caballo, and Tammie Phillips of Stratmore, Alberta and her own Lerche 37 – both upped the ante until Gonzalez returned with a redeeming ride on Quilebo Du Tillard. They ended in second in a time of 40.64 seconds.

Stewart produces back to back Wins in World Cup Qualifier and qualifier for HITS Million Grand Prix
San Juan Capistrano, CA – September 15, 2012 – The Blenheim Indoor Arena was bursting at its seams this evening during the $50,000 Blenheim World Cup Grand Prix, presented by Summit General Insurance Agency. Spectators filed in by the bus loads and with standing room only, equestrian fans of all ages got to witness the veteran rider Rusty Stewart and his incredible 10-year-old mount Bristol ride a perfect round and win his second consecutive World Cup Qualifier Grand Prix. The pair has been on a roll all season but it takes the perfect pair to stay on their game and post back-to-back World Cup Qualifier victories. Stewart proved his mount was credible just two weeks ago in Del Mar when they posted the only double clear effort in the $50,000 Showpark World Cup Grand Prix. Stewart knew Bristol was just as good indoors and could without question perform just as well. Stewart was right on the money.
Local and state wide equestrian enthusiasts chomped at the bit when offered the limited opportunity to walk an FEI level indoor World Cup Grand Prix course with the two-time Olympian and the soon-to-be U.S Olympic Show Jumping coach, Robert Ridland. To kick off the evening’s main event, Ridland escorted members of local Pony Clubs, College Equestrian Teams, Big Brother & Sisters of Orange County and many more through a jump-by-jump course description and what to expect during the night’s competition. The large jumps did little to intimidate one special fan who got a one on one chance to walk a part of the Grand Prix course with Ridland himself. Once the sun set, the competition was underway.

Lexington, KY – May 17, 2012 – It was another speedy night at the Kentucky Horse Park, as six double-clear finishers raced for the top prize in the $32,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic during the Kentucky Spring Classic. Proving that they are quickly reaching top form once again, veteran duo Ashlee Bond and Cadett 7 galloped over the short track in 38.54 seconds with all the fences in place to earn the lion’s share of the prize. Reed Kessler, often nicknamed Speedy Reedy, lived up to her name with Cylana to place second, while Ireland’s Richie Moloney took home third aboard Slieveanorra.
Germany’s Olaf Petersen Jr. built a technical track for tonight’s 38 horse and rider combinations, featuring a vertical-vertical double combination, a wide liverpool oxer, an oxer-vertical double combination, a triple bar, and vertical-double combination. Ten pairs were able to complete the first round without fault and advance to the jump-off, where they had to show over two wide oxers to the vertical-oxer double combination, a skinny vertical, the wide liverpool, and finish over a vertical away from the gate. The course twisted and turned through the arena, and offered many opportunities to gallop across the ground and increase the speed.
